CARSON-NEWMAN DEFEATS PRESBYTERIAN 91-73

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. - Carson-Newman's senior guard Monica Ashburn (Clarkrange, Tenn.) had a monster game for the Lady Eagles as she scored 28 points, dished out eight assists and pulled down six rebounds to lead the Lady Eagles to a 91-73 triumph over the visiting Blue Hose.  

Ashburn was 13-of-15 at the free throw line and also had four steals in 36 minutes of action. Amanda Jackson (Oneida, Tenn. ) banged home five three-pointers and finished the game with 19 points. Andrea Fitzgerald (Memphis, Tenn.) had 18 points and Stacie Dunn (Newport, Tenn.) added 14 points. 

The Blue Hose were led by Billie Haskins’  (Greensboro, Ga.) 20 points. Bonnie Werner (Kennesaw, Ga.) added 17 points and Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, S.C.) had 10 points for Presbyterian College.  

The Lady Eagles built a 38-35 lead at the half and extended it to 13 points on a Jackson three-pointer with 11:16 remaining in the second half. The Blue Hose made a run and cut the lead to 68-64 with 6:54 to go in the game on a three-pointer by Werner. But the Lady Eagles hit 15 free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Both teams spent a great deal of time at the charity stripe as there were 53 fouls called and the two teams went to the line a combined 71 times.  

The Lady Eagles improve to 7-8, 2-1 in conference play and keep pace among the SAC leaders. Presbyterian falls to 5-9, 1-2. The Lady Eagles play at Lenoir-Rhyne on Jan. 22 and Presbyterian plays at Mars Hill on Jan. 22.
