BLUE HOSE DEFEAT LOW COUNTRY ALL-STARS 91-86 IN EXHIBITION WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ACTION
PC’s Haskins leads five in double figures with 28 points
 

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College junior guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, Ga.) scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Blue Hose to a 91-86 win over the Low Country All-Stars in exhibition women’s basketball action Sunday afternoon. 

The Blue Hose victory was the debut for first-year head coach Leigh Irwin. Haskins led five players in double figures on the day after shooting nine-of-20 from the field. 

PC led by as many as 14 points (29-15) in the first half before the All-Stars fought back and cut the lead to 54-47 at the half. Haskins was red-hot from the field in the first frame, hitting on six-of-10 field goals for 19 points. PC as a team shot 54.8% from the field while holding a 20-13 advantage on the boards entering intermission. 

In the second half, the All-Stars used a 21-2 run to take a 59-68 lead at the 12:11 mark highlighted by former College of Charleston standout, Brittney Scarberry’s seven points. The Blue Hose responded by outscoring the All-Stars 23-12 in the next seven minutes and tied the game at 82-82 with 5:12 remaining. PC’s junior guard Bonnie Werner (Kennesaw, Ga.) keyed the run with 10 points and her layup at the 4:32 mark put PC ahead 84-82. The All-Stars cut the lead to one on two occasions down the stretch, but Werner made four of six free throws to ice the game. 

Werner finished the game with 21 points and four assists while her backcourt mate; Haskins added six rebounds and six assists. Sophomore forward Joanna Day-Lewis (Blairsville, Ga.) and freshman center Cameron Cook (Greensboro, N.C.) each scored 10 points while Cook added a game-high 13 rebounds. Rounding out the double figure scorers for PC was freshman forward Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, S.C.) who added 11 points and six rebounds. 

The All-Stars were led by former Lander University standout Tinisha Ladson who tallied 25 points and seven boards while Scarberry added 19 points. Former College of Charleston standout, Kelli Garrett added 15 points and Louisburg College standout Adrian Ford added 12 points. 

The Blue Hose open the 2002-03 season this weekend, November 22-23 at the Kennesaw State University Tournament.
