HOSE CRUSH LADY CRUSADERS 108-66 CLINTON,
S.C. Presbyterian College junior guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, Ga.) led six Blue Hose in double figures with a
game-high 22 points en route to a 108-66 defeat of North
Greenville College Tuesday night. Haskins hit five-of-six
shots from three-point range and tallied five assists and four
rebounds on the night. Every Blue Hose player who dressed on the
night scored in the ballgame as PC hit 34-of-44 free throws
against the Lady Crusaders. Defensively, the Blue Hose forced 43
turnovers on 22 steals including 23 before halftime. Presbyterian opened the
game on an 18-4 run keyed by three-pointers from Haskins and
backcourt teammate, junior guard Bonnie Werner
(Kennesaw, Ga.). North Greenville would cut the lead to
eight points (36-28) at the 4:49 mark, but would not get any
closer. The Blue Hose finished the half on a 21-2 run to take a
commanding 57-30 lead into halftime. PC shot 56.7% from the
field before intermission including four-of-nine from
three-point range. Werner and Haskins scored 12 and 11 points
respectively in the first half while sophomore guard Sarah
Woods (Florence, KY) came off the bench to add 11
points, all before halftime. The lead expanded in the
second half and the Blue Hose held their largest lead of the
game at 96-49, with 5:08 remaining. For the game, PC shot 49.2%
from the field and held a 39-34 edge on the backboards. Joining Haskins for scoring
honors was Werner with 14 points and seven assists, Woods with
15 points, sophomore forward Joanna
Day-Lewis (Blairsville, Ga.) and freshman forward Wesley
Campbell (Greenville, S.C.) each scored 12 points and
redshirt junior center Lauren
Yanik (Greer, S.C.) chipped in 11 points and six
rebounds. The 108 points scored by
Presbyterian is the most the team has scored in a game since the
1993-94 season when the Blue Hose defeated Lenoir-Rhyne College
109-50. The Blue Hose take time off for end-of-semester exams before returning to action on December 18-19 as they participate in the 2002 Cruzin Classic in West Palm Beach, Fla. PC will take on Nova Southeastern College on Wednesday, December 18 at 6:00 pm followed by a game against Fort Lewis College on Thursday, December 19 at 2:00 pm. |
