HOSE HOLD ON FOR 65-60 WIN OVER TUSCULUM IN SAC WOMEN’S
BASKETBALL ACTION CLINTON,
SC – Presbyterian
College junior guard Bonnie Werner
(Kennesaw, Ga.) tallied 16 points and eight assists to lead
the Blue Hose to a 65-60 win over Tusculum College in South
Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action Saturday
afternoon. The Blue Hose
led 37-34 at half after shooting 48.4% from the field and forcing 13 first half Pioneer turnovers. Junior guard Billie Haskins
(Greensboro, Ga) led the way with nine first half point for
PC while the Pioneers were led by senior forward Candice
Combs (Clayton, N.C.) who tallied 11 points. The second
half saw the Blue Hose hold the lead through, but had to fit off
several Pioneer runs down the stretch. PC’s Werner hit a pair
of free throws with :05 seconds remaining to seal the win for
the Blue Hose. Joining
Werner for scoring honors was Haskins who tallied 14 points
while redshirt junior center Lauren
Yanik (Greer,
S.C.) added six points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Tusculum was
led by sophomore guard Julie Maples (Knoxville, Tenn.)
who tallied 16 points while Combs added 13 points and nine
rebounds. Senior center Whitley Campbell (Oak Ridge,
Tenn.) added 12 points and eight rebounds. Presbyterian improves to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the SAC while Tusculum falls to 7-6 overall and 0-1 in the SAC. |
