WINGATE SHOOTS PAST BLUE HOSE 84-70 

CLINTON, S.C. – Wingate University junior guard Julie Law (Lancaster, S.C.) tallied a career-high 21 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 84-70 win over Presbyterian College in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action Wednesday night. 

The Bulldogs got 16 first half points for Law as the led 40-33 entering intermission. PC’s junior guard Bonnie Werner (Kennesaw, Ga.) paced the Blue Hose in the first half with 11 points. 

The second half saw the Bulldogs extend their lead to double figures as they controlled the backboards with a 46-34 advantage including a 17-9 edge on the offensive glass. 

Wingate forced 24 Blue Hose turnovers while dishing out 21 assists. The Bulldogs got a pair of double-doubles from senior forward Jessica Guareri (Piscataway, NJ) who tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds while freshman center Veronica Taylor (Irmo, S.C.) added 24 points and 15 rebounds. 

The Blue Hose were paced by Werner’s 21 points and six assists while junior guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, Ga.) added 13 points. Rounding out the double figure scorers for was freshman forward Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, S.C.) added 10 points and six boards. 

Wingate improves to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in the SAC while Presbyterian falls to 5-8 overall and 1-1 in the SAC.
