HOT SHOOTING LEADS TO 95-80 VICTORY CLINTON,
S.C. — Anderson College shot 66.7% from the field and
placed five players in double figures en route to a 95-80
victory over host Presbyterian College in women’s basketball
action Wednesday night in the Ross E. Templeton Center. PC opened the game on a
14-7 run highlighted by six points from senior guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, Ga.).
Anderson responded with a 10-2 run of their own and took their
first lead at 17-16 on a layup by freshman center Stephanie
Ponds (Bethune, SC) at the 12:55 mark. The game stayed
close over the next several minutes with the lead changing
hands five more times. PC opened a six-point lead at 38-32 on
a jumper by Haskins at the 3:15 mark only to see Anderson go
on a 9-2 run to close the first half and take a 41-40 lead
into intermission. In the second half, PC
retook the lead four times, the last coming at 52-51 on a
jumper by Haskins at the 16:12 mark. That would be the last
Blue Hose lead of the game as the Lady Trojans went on a 16-6
run to take a 67-57 lead with 11:34 left on a Cornett jumper.
Anderson would keep the lead in double figures the rest of the
way as they shot 75.9% from the field in the second stanza. The Lady Trojans hit
38-of-57 field goals on the night including 22-of-29 in the
second half. Freshman forward Catie
Cornett (Piedmont, SC) scored a team-best 15 points to
pace five players in double figures on the night. Ponds added
14 points for the Lady Trojans while freshman forward Kim
Hausman (Watkinville, Ga.) chipped in 13 points, junior
center Shemika Reed (Commerce,
Ga.) added 12 points and sophomore guard Leann Segers (Hartwell, Ga.) rounded out the double figure scorers
with 10 points. PC was led by Haskins’
game-high 21 points while sophomore center Cameron
Cook (Greensboro, NC) added 10 points. Anderson improves to 6-3 on
the season and return to action on Saturday, January 10 when
the face St. Andrews College at home to open the
Carolinas-Virginia Conference regular season. Tip-off is set
for 2:00 pm. Presbyterian falls to 4-8 on the season and open
the South Atlantic Conference regular season on Saturday as
well in Greeneville, Tenn. against Tusculum College at 2:00
pm. |
