FITZGERALD LEADS LADY EAGLES PAST PRESBYTERIAN 82-67

JEFFERSON CITY, TN – Carson-Newman’s Andrea Fitzgerald (Memphis, Tenn.) scored 32 points, pulled down eight rebounds, had four steals and three assists to lead the Lady Eagles to an 82-67 victory over the Blue Hose. 

Both teams shot the ball extremely well. The Lady Eagles shot 54% (29-54) from the field, including 61% (14-23) in the second half, and the Blue Hose were 23-46 for 50% on the night.

In addition to Fitzgerald’s 32 points, Stacie Dunn (Newport, Tenn.) added 18 points and Tiffany Parker (Newnan, Ga.) added 10 points for the Lady Eagles. The Blue Hose were led in scoring by Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, S.C.) who had 15 points. Billie Haskins (Greensboro, N.C.) had 14 points and Dana Birnie (Suwanee, Ga.) and Bonnie Werner (Kennesaw, Ga.) each added 10 points for PC.

The Lady Eagles built a 10-point lead at 18-8 when Amy Cate (Strawberry Plains, Tenn.) scored a lay-up at the 13:12 mark. C-N would enjoy a 39-29 lead at the half when Dunn scored with 23 seconds remaining in the half.  Salem Shaffer (Glen Falls, N.Y.) pushed the lead to 50-37 five minutes into the second half but then the Blue Hose began their comeback and took a 57-56 lead on a three-pointer by Werner at the 8:22 mark. Over the next four minutes, the Lady Eagles pushed the lead to 12 points, 71-59, on two free throws by Fitzgerald. C-N would convert their free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

The Lady Eagles improve to 9-14, 4-6 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) while the Blue Hose fall to 8-15, 3-7 in the conference. The Lady Eagles play at Lenoir-Rhyne on Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. while Presbyterian travels to Mars Hill on Feb. 18 for a 6 p.m. game against the Lions.
