BLUE
HOSE ROLL PAST LADY COUGARS 92-65 IN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
ACTION CLINTON,
S.C. — Presbyterian
College placed four players in double figures including junior
guard Lauren
Dobson’s (Greenville, SC) career-high 13 points en
route to a 92-65 victory over the Columbus State University
Lady Cougars in women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon
at the Ross E. Templeton Center. The
win improves the Blue Hose to 2-4 on the season while the Lady
Cougars drop to 1-3 on the year. Presbyterian
opened the game on a 22-7 run in the first seven minutes
highlighted by five points from sophomore center Anna
Sheppard (Norcross, GA). The Blue Hose held off the
Lady Cougars throughout the rest of the first half and took a
39-27 lead into intermission. The
Blue Hose shot 42.9% from the field including six-of-14
three-point attempts in the first frame while Columbus State
struggled to shoot 39.3% from the field and were outrebounded
20-16. PC
opened the second half on a 17-9 run to push the lead to 56-36
with 15:05 remaining on a layup by sophomore forward Cameron
Cook (Greensboro, N.C.). The Blue Hose would hold a
comfortable lead throughout the rest of the half including
their biggest lead at 92-65 as time expired. PC
shot 50.0% from the field for the game and outrebounded the
Lady Cougars 44-32 including 12 offensive rebounds. Columbus
State shot 33.3% for the game. Joining
Dobson for PC scoring honors was senior guard Billie
Haskins (Greensboro, GA) who tallied a game-high 22
points while Cook added 16 points and eight rebounds and
redshirt sophomore forward Dana
Birnie (Suwanee, GA) added 11 points and seven
rebounds. Columbus
State was led by junior forward Karina
Pulici (Descalbado, Brazil) who tallied a team-high 21
points on five-of-nine shooting from beyond the arc. Sophomore
forward Erin Gibbs (Snellville,
GA) and sophomore guard D’Leisha
Cockerham (Greenwood, FL) each chipped in nine points for
the Lady Cougars. |
