HASKINS AND DOBSON LEAD BLUE HOSE TO 70-63 VICTORY
 OVER ALL-STARS
Blue Hose tandem combine for 33 points in victory

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College’s senior guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, Ga.) and junior guard Lauren Dobson (Greenville, S.C.) combined for 33 points to lead the Blue Hose to a 70-63 road victory Monday night over Converse College at the Sally Abney Physical Activity Complex.

Haskins came off the bench to score 21 points on eight-of-10 shooting from the free throw line to go along with six steals and four assists. Dobson scored 12 points and added six rebounds and six assists on the night.

PC opened the game on a 11-4 run highlighted by four points from sophomore forward Wesley Campbell (Greenville, S.C.). The All-Stars chipped away at the lead on a 9-0 run highlighted by five points from junior guard Melissa Ballard (Saluda, N.C.) to take their first lead at 13-11 at the 12:41 mark. The Blue Hose responded with a 15-2 run over the next eight minutes to retake the lead at 26-15. PC’s freshman guard Brittany Carroll (Dunn, N.C.) came off the bench to hit a pair of three-pointers in the closing minutes of the first half to give PC a 32-24 lead at intermission. PC got a big boost off it’s bench in the first half with 24 of the team’s 32 first half points coming from nonstarters led by redshirt sophomore forward Dana Birnie’s (Suwanee, Ga.) nine points and five rebounds.

In the second half, the All-Stars closed the deficit to only two points at 35-33 with 14:41 remaining on a pair of free throws by senior forward Melissa Bunce (Cartersville, Ga.). Converse would keep the game close over the next few minutes as they respond with big shots to keep the lead in single digits. After Converse cut the lead to 40-38 with 12:30 left in the game, PC responded with a 13-6 run to push the lead to 53-44 with 8:14 remaining. The run was keyed by Haskins and Dobson who combined for all 13 Blue Hose points.

Converse would make one more run and cut the lead to 59-57 with 2:45 left in the game on a layup by freshman center Lauren Mueller (Foley, Ala.), but the Blue Hose fought back on a 8-0 run sparked by six points from Haskins to push the lead back to double digits at 67-57 with :58 seconds remaining in the game. Haskins would seal the victory for PC by hitting three-of-four free throw attempts in the final 20 seconds.

Birnie finished the game with nine points and seven boards for PC while sophomore center Cameron Cook (Greensboro, N.C.) added eight points and four rebounds.

Converse was led by Bunce’s team-high 17 points on seven-of-seven shooting from the line while Ballard added 14 points and Mueller rounded out the double figure scorers with 12 points to go along with seven rebounds.

PC improves to 8-12 on the season and has now won two straight entering Saturday’s home game against Tusculum College at 2:00 pm. Converse falls to 1-20 on the season.
