FMU’S MOORE LEADS PATRIOTS TO 82-70 WIN OVER PRESBYTERIAN

CLINTON, SC – Francis Marion University sophomore guard Danielle Moore (Owings Mill, MD) led five Patriots in double figures with 16 points en route to a 82-70 win over Presbyterian College women’s basketball action Tuesday night the Ross E. Templeton Center.

Francis Marion opened the game on a 17-4 run including a pair of three-pointers from senior center Marta Lasonczy (Munich, Germany). The Patriots extended the lead to 31-13 at the 7:11 mark of the first half before the Blue Hose responded with a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to 33-27 with 2:58 remaining.

The Patriots ended the half on a 6-2 run to lead 39-29 at intermission. FMU was led by sophomore guard Moore’s 12 first half points and three blocks while PC was paced by sophomore center Anna Sheppard’s (Norcross, Ga.) 13 points.

Francis Marion held the lead throughout the second half, but the Blue Hose cut the lead to four points on two occasions with the last coming with 4:13 remaining. FMU hit nine-of-10 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Joining Moore for scoring honors was Lasonczy with 12 points, junior guard Jennifer Howard (Raleigh, NC) with 15 points, senior forward Joanna Tincher (Bedford, IN) with 13 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore forward Vaughn Bowen (Westminister, SC) with 10 points.

PC was led by Sheppard’s career-high 22 points and six rebounds while senior guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, Ga.) added 12 points and redshirt sophomore forward Dana Birine (Suwanee, Ga.) chipped in 11 points.

Francis Marion improves to 2-0 overall and Presbyterian falls to 1-3 on the season.
