LENOIR-RHYNE HOLDS OFF BLUE HOSE SECOND HALF COMEBACK TO WIN 75-71 IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ACTION

CLINTON, S.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne College's junior center Crystal Clary (Hampton, Va.) scored a game-high 29 points with 11 rebounds as the Bears held off a second half Blue Hose comeback to win 75-71 in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Ross E. Templeton Center.

The Blue Hose, who trailed by as many as 25 points in the game, came back in the second half to cut the lead to two points at 73-71 with :10 seconds remaining in the game. Lenoir-Rhyne's senior forward Kim Small (Greensboro, NC) hit a  pair of free throws on the following possession to seal the victory.

In the first half, Lenoir-Rhyne came out redshot by shooting 56.3% from the field behind Clary 24 points on nine-of-12 shooting from the floor. The Blue Hose struggled offensively in the first half, hitting only six-of-24 field goals for 25.0%. L-R took a double-figure lead at 22-11 on a jumper by Small and never looked back. The Bears pushed the lead to as many as 25 points at 48-23 as the game enter halftime.

In the second half, a fired-up Blue Hose squad came out and went on a 32-16 run in the first 13 minutes to cut the lead to single digits at 64-55 on a layup by redshirt junior forward Lauren Yanik (Greer, S.C.). PC continued to pressure the Bears and cut the lead to five points five minutes later at 71-66 on a layup by Yanik. The Blue Hose would score five more points down the stretch including a three-pointer by junior guard Lauren Dobson (Greenville, S.C.) to cut the lead to 73-71 setting up Small's free throws.

The Bears were led by sophomore forward Angela Danley (Snellville, Ga.) who tallied 13 points and six boards.

The Blue Hose were led by senior guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, Ga.) and Yanik who each scored 11 points in the game. Redshirt sophomore forward Dana Birnie (Suwanee, Ga.) added 10 points and six boards.

Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 15-9 overall and 10-2 in the SAC while PC falls to 8-17 overall and 3-9 in league play.
