Exhibition Game CLINTON,
S.C. — Presbyterian College senior guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, Ga.) led four Blue Hose players in
double figures with a game-high 18 points en route to a 72-45
win over the Low Country All-Stars in women’s basketball
exhibition action Sunday afternoon in the Ross E. Templeton
Center. The Blue Hose took control
of a sluggish start by taking a 13-point lead at 29-16 with
5:45 remaining in the first half. PC was able to keep the lead
in double figures down the stretch and push it to the largest
margin of 19 points at 42-23 entering intermission. PC shot 46.2% from the
field while hitting 15-of-18 free throw attempts in the first
half while holding the All-Stars to 29.0% shooting from the
floor. Sophomore center Anna
Sheppard (Norcross, Ga.) and sophomore guard Rebecca
Wessinger (Laurens, S.C.) paced the Blue Hose with 10
first half points apiece. The lead ballooned to as
many as 30 points at 63-33 on a layup by freshman sophomore
forward Dana Birnie (Suwanee, Ga.) at the 7:08 mark. PC would go on to hold
the All-Stars to 22 second half points and 27.0% shooting from
the field as they won easily 72-45. The Blue Hose dominated the
boards holding a 57-40 advantage while forcing 21 All-Star
turnovers on the day. Pacing the Blue Hose was
Haskins with 18 points and five rebounds while Wessinger added
13 points and Sheppard tallied 11 points and nine rebounds.
Birnie chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds while redshirt
junior forward Lauren
Yanik (Greer, S.C.) added seven points and 13 rebounds.
Junior guard Lauren
Dobson (Greenville, S.C.) dished out a game-high six
assists. The All-Stars were led by
former Charleston Southern University standout, Eboni
Littlejohn who tallied 13 points and two rebounds. Former
Clemson University standout, Wendy
Anderson added eight points and nine rebounds while Marea
Daniels (Charleston Southern) added eight points. Presbyterian College will
open the 2003-04 regular season on Monday, November 17 as they
travel to Due West, S.C. to face Erskine College at 7:00 pm. |
