FERRIS LEADS
LADY LIONS TO 68-61 VICTORY OVER
LADY BLUE HOSE
CLINTON,
S.C. – Mars Hill College place three players in double
figures led by sophomore guard Krisiti Ferris’ (Knoxville,
Tenn.) game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds en route to a 68-61
win over host Presbyterian College in South Atlantic Conference
women’s basketball action Wednesday night at the Ross E.
Templeton Center.
Mars Hill
opened the first with a hot hand from the field and took an
early double figure lead at 23-13 at the 6:36 mark. The lead
increased to 14 points at 27-13 on a layup by sophomore forward Lindsey
Jones (Crossville, TN) at the 5:23 mark before PC went on a
9-4 run to cut the lead to 31-24 with 1:45 remaining. The Lady
Lions, who shot 50.0% from the field in the first half, went on
a 6-0 run to end the half and go ahead 37-24 at intermission.
Jones led the Lady Lions with 11 first half points while Ferris added 10
points. PC’s senior guard Bonnie
Werner (Kennesaw, Ga.) sparked the Blue Hose in the
first half with 10 points on three-of-five shooting from beyond
the arc.
In the second
half, Mars Hill held the lead the entire time but had to hold
several Blue Hose rallies down the stretch. PC cut the lead to
two points at 59-57 on a jumper by sophomore center Cameron
Cook (Greensboro, N.C.) at the 2:08 mark, but would not
get any closer. The Lady Lions closed out the game on a 9-4 run
to seal the victory.
Mars Hill was
led by Ferris’ game-high 21 points to go along with 10
rebounds. Jones added 19 points for the Lady Lions while
freshman guard Abby DeBusk (New Tazewell, NC) chipped in
10 points.
Presbyterian
was led by Werner’s team-high 15 points while sophomore
forward Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens,
S.C.) added11 points. Cook rounded out the double figure scorers
for PC with 10 points.
Mars Hill
improves to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in league play while
Presbyterian falls to 6-10 overall and 2-2 in the SAC.
