HASKINS & BIRNIE LEADS BLUE HOSE TO 79-66 VICTORY 
OVER NORTH GREENVILLE
PC’s Billie Haskins scores her 1,000 career point 
in the Blue Hose win

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College senior guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, Ga.) and redshirt sophomore forward Dana Birnie (Suwanee, Ga.) combined for 47 points to lead the Blue Hose to a 79-66 win over the Lady Crusaders of North Greenville College in women’s basketball action Tuesday night at the Ross E. Templeton Center.

Haskins scored 23 points with seven rebounds on the night on five-of-11 three-point field goals and reached a career milestone when she scored her 1,000 career point on a layup at the 3:08 of the second half. She becomes the 14th player in Blue Hose history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Birnie led PC with a game-high 24 points to go along with seven rebounds and six assists.

After a slow start, PC jumped out to a 19-10 lead at the 11:51 mark on a three-pointer by sophomore center Anna Sheppard (Norcross, Ga.). North Greenville responded with a 13-6 over the next six minutes to cut the lead to 25-23 with 5:25 remaining first half. The Lady Crusaders tied the game at 31-31 with :22 seconds remaining on a layup by freshman guard Alexis Robinson (Beaufort, S.C.), but Haskins came to the rescue for PC and hit a three-pointer as time expired to give the Blue Hose a 34-31 lead at intermission.

North Greenville opened the second half on a 9-6 run to tie the game at 40-40 with 17:03 remaining. PC fought back with a 13-3 run to pull ahead 53-43 at the 13:03 mark on a layup by Birnie. The Lady Crusaders cut the lead under double figures but could not get any closer than six points down the stretch as PC held on for the 79-66 win.

Joining Haskins and Birnie for scoring honors was sophomore center Cameron Cook (Greensboro, N.C.) who tallied 10 points and five rebounds while redshirt junior forward Lauren Yanik (Greer, S.C.) added 12 rebounds and seven points for the Blue Hose.

North Greenville was led by sophomore guard Sarah Giles (Clover, S.C.) who tallied 14 points while junior center Carlisha Shuford (Florence, S.C.) who tallied  10 points and nine rebounds. The Lady Crusaders kept the game close by controlling the backboards with a 22 offensive rebounds, 12 in the second half. Sophomore forward Amber Rector (Wellford, S.C.) added nine points and 10 rebounds for NGC.

PC shot 45.3% from the field including eight-of-25 from the three-point arc. North Greenville was held to 32.9% shooting from the field, but hit 17-of-22 free throw attempts on the night.

The Blue Hose improve to 4-5 on the season while the Lady Crusaders fall to 4-4 on the year. PC returns to action this Thursday, December 11 when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to face Johnson C. Smith University at 7;00 pm.
