WINGATE WOMEN IMPROVE TO 2-0 IN THE SAC WITH 
93-72 WIN OVER PC

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University women's basketball team bolted to a 21-point lead in the first half and never looked back, taking a 93-72 South Atlantic Conference win over Presbyterian College Wednesday night in Cuddy Arena. Four players for the Bulldogs scored in double figures.

With the victory, Wingate improves to 9-6 overall and 2-0 in the SAC. Presbyterian falls to 5-9 overall and 1-1 in the SAC. The Bulldogs will make their first SAC road trip Saturday, visiting Newberry College for a 2 p.m. tilt. The Blue Hose host Carson-Newman College Saturday at 2 p.m.

Senior guard Julie Law (Waxhaw N.C.) led the Bulldogs with 20 points and six assists off the bench.  Both Emily Paffrath (Bakersville, N.C.) and Veronica Taylor (Columbia, S.C.) continued their solid play at the forward and center position for the Bulldogs. 

A freshman forward, Paffrath notched her team-leading sixth double-double of season with 15 points and twelve rebounds. A sophomore center, Taylor contributed 18 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Samantha Daily (Huntington, W.Va.) had a solid performance with 12 points on the evening.   

Junior forward Lauren Yanik led the Blue Hose with 17 points and twelve boards.  Sophomore center Cameron Cook and sophomore guard Dana Birnie chipped in 10 points each for the visiting Blue Hose.

The Bulldogs had their largest lead of the game at the 8:22 mark of the second half as Julie Law hit a lay-up to give Wingate an 80-54 advantage. The Bulldogs never looked back as they remained in control of the rest of the game. The Blue Hose stayed close by hitting 27-of-31 free throws; however, they struggled from the field as they hit only 28.8 percent on the night.
   
In the first half, Wingate led by as many as 21 points. Freshman forward Lakin Byer (Bassett, Va.) hit a lay-up with 1:20 remaining in the first frame to give the Bulldogs a 49-28 advantage. Wingate led 49-32 at intermission.
