JEFFERSON
CITY ,TN — Brooke Johnson
(Seymour, Tenn.) recorded a triple-double as she scored 14
points, had 10 rebounds and blocked 10 shots to power
Carson-Newman College to a 76-59 win over Presbyterian
College. Johnson now holds the single season blocks record as she has
swatted 72 shots, breaking the old record of 71 held by Data
Caldwell in 1979-80. In addition to Johnson’s 14 points, Giovanni Booker (Orlando, Fla.) added 13 points, and
Tiffany Parker (Newnan, Ga.) and
LaToya Davison (College Park, Ga.) each added 10 points.
The Blue Hose were led in scoring by Brittany
Carroll (Dunn, S.C.) who had 16 points.
Bridget Takach (Chapin,
S.C.) had 10 points for PC. The Lady Eagles built a double-digit lead at 22-11 when
Kala Green (Morristown, Tenn.) hit a short jumper at the
11:23 mark. The Lady Eagles kept the Blue Hose at bay the rest
of the half and took a 35-29 lead into the locker room at
halftime. Cameron
Cook (Greensboro, N.C.) cut the lead
to four points, 35-31, with a basket early in the second half
but the Lady Eagles turned up the defense pressure and
eventually pushed the lead to 68-47 with two free throws at
the 4:38 mark. The Lady Eagles would go on to claim a 76-59
win. Carson-Newman out-rebounded PC 44-32. Both teams struggled with
turnovers as they combined for 41 miscues, 21 by C-N and 20 by
PC. With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 12-4, 2-1 in the
South Atlantic Conference (SAC) while PC falls to 3-12, 1-2 in
SAC play. The Lady Eagles travel to Greeneville on Jan. 19 to
face Tusculum and Presbyterian makes the short drive to
