LADY EAGLES ROLL PAST BLUE HOSE 88-55

CLINTON, SC – Carson-Newman College placed five players in double figures as the Lady Eagles defeated Presbyterian College 88-55 in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Ross E. Templeton Center.

In the first half, the Eagles jumped out to a 10-0 lead before PC’s junior forward Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, SC) hit a pair of free throws at the 15:39 mark to put the Blue Hose on the scoreboard. Carson-Newman extended their lead to as many as 20 points at 31-11 midway through the half behind 11 first half points from senior center Tiffany Parker (Newnan, GA). The Blue Hose responded with a 16-12 run in the final six minutes to trail 43-27 at intermission.

Carson-Newman shot 41.9% from the field in the first half and held a 13-9 advantage on the offensive glass while PC shot only 37.0% from the field. Wessinger led PC with eight first half points while redshirt junior Renita Clark (Rossville, GA) came off the bench for the Lady Eagles to score nine points. PC’s junior center Wesley Campbell (Greenville, SC) had a solid performance in her first start at center with five points, six rebounds, and three blocks.

The second half saw the Lady Eagles control the game with solid shooting from the deep as they hit five-of-10 three-point field goals. Carson-Newman held the lead throughout the half as they dominated the backboards with a 44-36 advantage including 21-15 on the offensive glass for the game.

The Lady Eagles were led in scoring by Clark with 18 points off the bench while freshman forward Brooke Johnson (Seymour, TN) added 17 points and five boards. Parker chipped in 15 points while junior guard Giovvanni Booker (Orlando, FL) and sophomore guard Gretchen Geyer (New Carlisle, IN) added 12 points apiece.

PC was led by Wessinger with a game-tying 19 points on seven-of-11 shooting from the field while Campbell added eight points, a game-high 11 rebounds and four blocks.

Carson-Newman improves to 18-5 overall and 8-2 in the league while Presbyterian falls to 7-16 overall and 4-6 in the league.
