ADVANCE IN SAC TOURNAMENT
WITH 70-52 WIN OVER PC

– The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (21-7) had four players
finish the game in double figures as C-N defeated Presbyterian
(7-21) 70-52 Wednesday night in the first round of the Food
Lion South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Women’s Basketball
Tournament.
With the win, the Lady Eagles will advance to the
SAC Final Four in

North Carolina
where they will face Mars Hill, the number six seed, Saturday,
March 5 at
6 p.m.
at the
Catawba

. The Lady Blue Hose end the season at 7-21.
The Lady Eagles were led in scoring by Brittaney
Gooch (
Franklin
,
Ky.
) who had 14 points. Brooke
Johnson (
Seymour
,
TN) had 11 points and Giovanni
Booker (
Orlando
,
Fla.
) and Gabby
Smith (
Kansas City
,
Mo.
) each had 10 points for C-N. PC was led in scoring by
the SAC’s leading scorer, Rebecca
Wessinger
(
Laurens
,
S.C.
), who had 22 points and six rebounds.
The game was close for most of the first half until
the Lady Eagles took a 19-11 lead at the

mark on a Smith jumper. The Lady Eagles pushed the lead to 13,
28-15, on a jumper by LaToya
Davison (
College Park
,
Ga.
) at the
5:02
mark. C-N led 32-22 at the half.
The Lady Eagles maintained a comfortable lead for
most of the second half. The final C-N basket came when Kala Green (
Morristown
,
TN)
scored on a jumper at the :22 mark and the final 70-52 score
was produced by Wessinger as time expired.
The Lady Eagles used a 52% field goal percentage
(15-29) in the second half to build their lead. The game was
turnover-prone as PC turned the ball over 24 times and C-N
committed 23 miscues. C-N out-rebounded the Blue Hose 42-32
and outscored PC 32-18 in the paint.
