COOK LEADS BLUE HOSE PAST ALL-STARS 77-54

CLINTON, SC – Presbyterian College junior center Cameron Cook (Greensboro, NC) tallied a career-high 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds to lead three players in double figures as the Blue Hose defeated Converse College 77-54 in women’s basketball action Tuesday night in the Ross E. Templeton Center.

In the first half, the Blue Hose opened the game on a 20-7 run (11:21) highlighted by eight points from Cook. The All-Stars worked their way back into the game behind the three-point shooting of sophomore guard Blake Hallman (York, SC). Hallman, who came off the bench, connected on three-of-five three-point field goals in the last eight minutes to pull Converse to within 34-28 at intermission/

Cook led the Blue Hose in the first half with 11 points and five boards while the All-Stars were led by Hallman’s 11 points. PC shot 50.0% from the floor in the first half while Converse hit 34.5% of their field goals. Neither team was able to take care of the ball in the opening half as both schools were charged with 12 turnovers.

In the second half, PC opened up with a 10-3 run to push the lead back to double figures. The lead increased to as many as 27 points at 77-50 with 1:31 left in the game on a layup by Cook.

The Blue Hose dominated the backboards holding a 52-36 advantage while shooting 49.2% from the floor for the game. Converse shot 31.3% from the floor for the game while turning the ball over 20 times.

Joining Cook for Blue Hose scoring honors was junior forward Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, SC) who tallied 17 points and eight rebounds while junior forward Wesley Campbell (Greenville, SC) came off the bench to score 13 points and added nine rebounds. Converse was led in scoring by Hallman’s 13 points while sophomore guard Olivia Freda (Hilton Head, SC) also added 13 points and three rebounds. Senior center Melissa Bunce (Cartersville, GA) came off the bench to score nine points and grab 10 rebounds. In the process Bunce scored her 1,000th career point.

Presbyterian improves to 6-14 on the season while Converse falls to 2-17 overall.  The Blue Hose take the floor again on Saturday, February 5, 2004 when they return to South Atlantic Conference play by hosting the Lady Lions of Mars Hill College at 2:00 pm. The All-Stars return to action on Saturday as well when they host St. Andrews College at 7:00 pm.
