Monday, November 15, 2004 LADY BLUE HOSE FALL IN TRIPLE OVERTIME TO ERSKINE CLINTON, S.C. - Erskine College went on a 10-4 run to start the third overtime and held off Presbyterian College the rest of the way to take home a 107-104 victory in women's basketball action Monday night at the Ross E. Templeton Center. The Lady Blue Hose (0-1) led by 17 points with 8:32 remaining in the game after a lay up by junior Anna Sheppard (Norcross, GA.). The Flying Fleet (1-0) then went on a 16-0 run over the next three and half minutes and pulled within one on a three-pointer by junior Chacee Whittington (Lawrenceville, GA.). PC pushed the lead back out to eight with just over three minutes remaining on a free throw by junior Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, S.C.), but the Flying Fleet made three three pointers to tie the game at 74 and send it to overtime. In the first overtime, Erskine had a three point lead, but the Lady Blue Hose made a free throw attempt with 29 seconds left to send the game to the second extra period. In the second overtime period, the Lady Blue Hose went on a 6-1 run to start the period, but Erskine junior Melissa Woods (Suwanee, GA.) hit a runner in the lane as time expired to tie it up. The Flying Fleet went up by six in the third overtime on a three pointer by Whittington, her second of the period and held off PC the rest of the way for the victory. PC had four players finish with a double-double, led by Wessinger, who had 28 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Cameron Cook (Greensboro, N.C.) finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds, junior Wesley Campbell (Greenville, S.C.) had 16 points and 15 rebounds and Sheppard had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Blue Hose. Senior Lauren Dobson (Greenville, S.C.) chipped in 21 points for PC. Erskine had six players in double figures led by Whittington, who finished with 27 points and 11 boards. Junior Stephanie Jenkins (McDonough, GA.) also had a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Woods had the third double-double for the Flying Fleet with 22 points and 10 assists. Junior Anita Owens (Walhalla, S.C.) and sophomore Leigh Gray (Greenville, S.C.) chipped in with 14 and 12 points, respectively. PC will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Belmont, N.C. to take on Belmont Abbey College in a 7:30 p.m. contest. Erskine will be back in action Monday, November 22 as they host Southern Wesleyan beginning at 6 p.m. |
