LADY GOLDEN BULLS SLIP PAST BLUE HOSE 75-67

CLINTON, SC --- Johnson C. Smith University’s senior guard Melanie Harrison (Tuskegee, AL) tallied a game-high 19 points to lead four players in double figures en route to a 75-67 win over Presbyterian College in women’s basketball action Tuesday night at the Ross E. Templeton Center.

In the first half, the Lady Golden Bulls jumped out to an early 22-9 lead thanks in part to 11 points coming from Harrison. The Blue Hose fought back and trimmed the lead to 22-17 at the 6:46 mark on a 8-0 run keyed by the play of freshman guard Amy Jones (Warthen, GA) who hit a jumper and tallied a pair of steals.

JC Smith closed the half with a 16-4 run to take a 38-26 advantage into halftime. JCSU shot 50.0% from the field in the first half with Harrison leading the way with 13 points and five assists. PC, who shot 41.7% from the field, were led by junior center Cameron Cook (Greensboro, NC) who tallied six points and five boards.

PC opened the second half on a 12-3 run to trim the lead to 41-38 at the 15:41 mark on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Brittany Carroll (Dunn, NC). The Blue Hose kept the game close over the next few minutes and pulled even at 52-52 on a pair of free throws by junior guard Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, SC) with 8:19 left in the game.

JSCU came alive and went on a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to push the lead back to double figures at 66-54 on a layup by freshman center Rochelle Bodie (Raleigh, NC). The lead stayed in double figures until a 12-3 run capped by a three-pointer at the buzzer by senior guard Lauren Dobson (Greenville, SC) cut the lead to 75-67 as time expired.

The Lady Golden Bulls (6-2) Harrison who added six assists and five rebounds while sophomore guard Tiana Pope (Albany, GA) added 18 points followed by senior forward Lauren Goss’ (Morrow, GA) 17 points. Freshman guard Shemika Jones (Largo, MD) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points. 

The Blue Hose (1-8) were led by Cook’s double-double of 10 points and 12 boards while Carroll added 11 points off the bench. Junior forward Anna Sheppard (Norcross, GA) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points and four boards.
