HOSE FALL 80-65 AT HOME TO BEARS CLINTON,
S.C. –
Lenoir-Rhyne College’s Lanica Williams (Newport News,
VA) had 21 points to lead three players in double figures as
the Bears took a 80-65 victory over Presbyterian College in
South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action Saturday
afternoon at the Ross E. Templeton Center. Lenoir-Rhyne
(9-8, 3-2 SAC) shot lights out in the first half as they hit
15 of 27 shots for 55.6%, while the Blue Hose(4-13, 2-3) shot just 33.3%.
The Bears were also helped out by 16 PC turnovers to take a
39-26 lead heading into the locker room. In
the second half, the Blue Hose cut the lead to six (44-38)
with 16:32 remaining on an Amy
Jones (Warthen, GA) three pointer. From there, the
Bears went on a 13-3 run over the next four and half minutes
to push the L-R lead back out to 16. PC
would cut the lead back down to 10 with 10:31 left on a free
throw by Rebecca Wessinger
(Laurens, S.C.), but Lenoir-Rhyne would not let the Blue Hose
get any closer as they matched basket for basket down the
stretch. Crystal
Clary
(Hampton, VA) had 16 points for Lenoir-Rhyne, while Shannon
Jones (Warrenton, N.C.) chipped in 14. Wessinger led
Presbyterian with 23 points, while Jones and Anna
Sheppard (Norcross, GA)
finished with 15 and 13, respectively. The
Blue Hose will be back in action Wednesday night as they host
Tusculum College in a 6:00 pm contest. Lenoir-Rhyne will
return home Wednesday to face Newberry College, also in a 6:00
pm contest. |
