BLUE
HOSE PICK UP KEY ROAD WIN OVER
NORTH GREENVILLE 85-76
TIGERVILLE,
SC — Presbyterian
College forward Rebecca
Wessinger and guard Amy
Jones combined for 48 points to lead the Blue Hose to
an 85-76 victory over the Crusaders of North Greenville
College Wednesday night in Hayes Gymnasium. The Blue Hose
improve to 2-8 on the season and snap a six-game losing skid
while the Crusaders fall to 2-7 on the season.
Wessinger,
a junior from Laurens, SC, tied her career-high with 28 points
on eight-of-11 shooting from the field and 12-of-13 from the
charity stripe to go along with five boards. Jones, a freshman
from Warthen, GA, set career-highs for points (20) and steals
(7) on the night while shooting four-of-six from three-point
range and four-of-four from the charity stripe. She also added
four rebounds and three assists while not committing a
turnover in 25 minutes of action. Senior guard Lauren
Dobson (Greenville, SC) rounded out the double figure
scorers with 14 points and four assists.
North
Greenville was led by senior center Earlana
Jackson (Greenville, SC) tallied a team-high 17 points and
eight boards while senior forward Shea
Sims (Hendersonville, TN) added 13 points. Freshman guard Audrey
Toscano (Charlotte, NC) came off the bench to add 12
points and three boards.
The
first half saw seven lead changes with PC twice holding a
six-point lead, the final time at 26-20 at the 6:44 mark on a
jumper by freshman guard Bridget
Takach (Chapin, SC). North Greenville closed out the
half from that point on a 20-11 run to lead 40-37 at
intermission. Sims led the Crusaders in the first half with 10
points on two-of-five shooting from beyond the arc while
Wessinger keyed the Blue Hose with 14 points on five-of-seven
shooting from the field. PC shot 50.0% in the first half to
NGC’s 38.1%, but the Crusaders hit six-of-17 three-point
field goals to hold the lead at the half.
The
second half was closely contested with seven lead changes.
Wessinger gave PC the lead for good at 68-66 on a pair of free
throws at the 5:55 mark. The Blue Hose closed the game on a
19-10 run keyed by eight points including a pair of
three-point field goals from Jones. Dobson also hit four
straight free throw attempts in the final :52 seconds to seal
the victory.
The
Blue Hose will take time off for next week’s exams and the
Christmas holiday before returning to the hardwood on Sunday,
January 2 when they host USC Aiken at 2:00 pm. North
Greenville returns to action on Friday, December 10 when they
face Anderson College on the road at 7:00 pm.
