Seeds ANNOUNCED for 2005 Food Lion 
SAC Basketball Tournament

#7 seed Blue Hose women to travel face #2 seed Carson-Newman on March 2 at 7 pm

ROCK HILL, SC. – The Wingate University women and the Catawba College men, who both played in the championship game of last year’s tournament, earned the top seeds for the 2005 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference basketball tournament, league officials announced today.

For the women’s standings, Wingate earned the top seed by virtue of its one-point victory over Carson-Newman on Saturday. The Bulldogs will host eighth seed Tusculum on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Carson-Newman is the second seed and will host seventh seed Presbyterian on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Lenoir-Rhyne women finished 9-5 and are the third seed. The Bears host sixth seed Mars Hill on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Catawba College, which has won six games in a row, is the fourth seed and will host fifth seed Newberry at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Catawba won last year’s tournament as the top seed.

Winners of Wednesday’s quarterfinal games advance to Hickory, N.C. Saturday’s semifinals will take place at Catawba Valley Community College, with the Tusculum/Wingate women’s matchup facing the Newberry/Catawba winner at 2 p.m. The first men’s semifinal will follow, with the winner of the Newberry/Catawba game meeting the winner of the Carson-Newman/Tusculum game.

The second women’s semifinal game will be at 6 p.m., with the Presbyterian/Carson-Newman winner meeting the Mars Hill/Lenoir-Rhyne winner. The final game of the day will have the Wingate/Lenoir-Rhyne winner meeting the Mars Hill/Presbyterian winner.

The women’s championship game is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, while the men’s championship game will tip off at 4 p.m. Tickets for the tournament are $6 per day for adults, $3 per day for children and students, and $2 per day for college students with ID. The men’s and women’s winners of the tournament will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Division II playoffs.
