BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS BLUE HOSE PAST PIONEERS

CLINTON, S.C. – Wesley Campbell (Greenville, S.C.) had a career-high 17 points to go along with 13 rebounds, and Presbyterian College went on a huge second half run to walk away with a 72-59 victory over Tusculum College in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action Wednesday night at the Ross E. Templeton Center.

The Blue Hose (5-13, 3-3 SAC) fell behind 7-2 early in the first half, but rallied to knot the score at 9 on a three pointer by Brittany Carroll (Dunn, N.C.). From there, the Pioneers (6-13, 1-5) took control and never allowed PC to get within three over the final ten minutes of the half to head into the locker room with a 28-24 lead.

In the second half, the Blue Hose finally broke through as they scored the half’s first nine points on three three-pointers, two by Carroll and one by Amy Jones (Warthen, Ga.). Tusculum would trim the lead to two on a three by Chassity Martin (Salem, Va.), but PC went on a 23-4 run over the next seven minutes to go up by 21 (56-35).

The Pioneers attempted a comeback in the final minutes, but PC hit seven free throws down the stretch to seal the 13 point victory.

Campbell led the Blue Hose with a double-double, 17 points, 13 in the second half, and 13 rebounds. Carroll finished with 20 points and five rebounds, and Jones finished with 14 points. Julie Maples (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the Pioneers with 24 points, while Martin finished with 16.

PC will be back in action Saturday afternoon as they travel to Catawba College for a 2 p.m. contest. Tusculum will be back on the road Saturday for a 6 p.m. match-up at Lenoir-Rhyne College.
