Ross, Worthy Push Spartans Over Presbyterian  76-53

Spartanburg, SC – Yakeeshia Ross recorded her fourth double-double of the season and Keoshia Worthy scored a career-high 19 points to lead USC Upstate to a convincing 76-53 victory over Presbyterian College Wednesday night in the G.B. Hodge Center .

USC Upstate improves to 4-2 on the year, while Presbyterian falls to 1-6.  USC Upstate travels to Newberry Saturday afternoon for a 2:00 start, while Presbyterian hosts Armstrong Atlantic State Saturday at 2:00 in Clinton .

Ross finished the game with 18 points and 12 rebounds to go along with two blocks.  She had 10 points and eight rebounds at halftime as she helped push USC Upstate to a 39-24 lead.

Leading by two points, 21-19, with 8:55 to play in the first half, USC Upstate used an 8-1 run over the next three minutes to take a 29-20 lead with 5:27 to play.  The Spartans increased the lead to 10 points on a jumper by Ross with 3:15 to play and extended the margin to 15 points at the break.

Worthy also helped the Spartans to the 15-point lead in the first half, finishing the opening stanza with 10 points as the Spartans hit 15-of-29 shots and all eight of its free throw attempts.

In the second half, USC Upstate opened the half with a 6-0 run to take a 21-point lead with 17:43 to play and the lead grew to 24 points a minute later on a layup by Ross.  The lead never dipped below 16 points the rest of the game as the Spartans settled for the 23-point win.

USC Upstate shot 48.2% for the game and held Presbyterian to just 38.2% shooting from the floor.  The Spartans also were strong from the free throw line, hitting 10-of-11 from the charity stripe.

The Spartans forced 18 Blue Hose turnovers on the night, resulting in 30 points for USC Upstate.  The Spartans also grabbed 16 offensive rebounds leading to 17 second chance points.

Worthy tallied four assists to go along with her 19 points to lead USC Upstate.  Stephanie Feyes finished with nine points and four assists, while Karmella Wynne added seven points and four boards.  Ten of the 12 Spartans who played in the game scored on the night.

Cameron Cook led Presbyterian College with 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists.  Amy Jones tallied 12 points and three assists off the bench.
