SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL AWARDS ANNOUNCED

PC’s Wessinger named to All-SAC & SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Women’s Basketball

PC’s Johnson named to the SAC All-Freshmen Team

ROCK HILL, SC – Presbyterian College senior Rebecca Wessinger has been named to the 2006 All-South Atlantic Conference first team and selected as the league’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s basketball announced today by league officials. In addition, PC’s Morgan Johnson was named to the SAC All-Freshmen team.

 

Wessinger, a senior forward from Laurens, S.C. (Laurens HS) carries a 3.94 GPA as a biology major. On the court, she is a two-time First Team All-Conference selection, and ranked fourth in the league in scoring (15.6 ppg) this season. In addition, she averaged 4.2 rpg, 2.0 apg, while shooting 45.4% from the floor, 40.4% from three-pointland, and 73.9% from the charity stripe. She currently has 1,368 career points which ranks 5th-best in program history.

Wessinger has been named to the Presbyterian College President’s List (4.0 GPA) four semesters, and to the Dean’s List three semesters, as well as the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. She is a member of the Tri-Beta Honor Society, the American Institute of Biological Science, the SAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was a Presbyterian College Junior Marshall. She was named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine® Academic All-District First Team the past two years, and was named Third Team Academic All-American this year.

On campus and in the community, Wessinger serves as a tutor in biology and in a local elementary school. She has volunteered her time to several service ventures, including Hurricane Katrina relief, Make-A-Wish, Race for a Cure, collecting Christmas presents for local children and preparing gift packages for service people serving in Iraq.

The SAC Scholar Athlete Award is presented to one athlete from each of the SAC’s 14 sports programs and represents a combination of athletic skill, academic achievement, and participation in community service and leadership roles.

 

Johnson, a 6-0 freshman forward from Marietta, Ga. (Walton HS), played in all 27 games this season with four starting assignments for the Lady Blue Hose. She averaged 5.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 0.6 bpg, while shooting 55.4% from the floor and 61.1% from the free throw line.
