TAKACH’S LAST-SECOND HEROICS LIFT PRESBYTERIAN TO JEFFERSON CITY, TN -- Bridget Takach (Chapin, S.C.) made a three-pointer with no time left on the game clock to send the Presbyterian Lady Blue Hose home with a 61-60 win over the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles Monday night South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action at Holt Fieldhouse. Takach, who finished with 14 points, buried four of her team’s 11 3-pointers. The Lady Eagles led 59-52 with 2:07 to play in the contest, but were out-scored 9-1 in the final two minutes. Presbyterian’s final five field goals in the game were all three-point baskets. Ashley Tipton (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the way for the home team with a game-high 15 points, while Giovanni Booker (Orlando, Fla.) and Gabrielle Smith (Kansas City, MO) added 10 apiece. Wesley Campbell (Greenville, S.C.) added 13 for the Lady Blue Hose (20-5, 9-3) and Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, S.C.) tossed in 10. Carson-Newman took the lead with 16:57 to play in the second half when Tipton made a short jumper and didn’t relinquish the advantage until Takach’s 3-pointer. The Lady Eagles (15-10, 7-5) got four points apiece from Nicole Avrett (Shirley, Ark.) and Booker as they jumped out to an 11-0 lead with 16:03 to play in the first half. Presbyterian rallied to take the lead when Takach downed an eight-foot jumper with 3:57 to play in the period to put the visitors up 22-21. Tipton tossed in a pair of free throws to put the Lady Eagles back on top 27-25 at halftime. Booker tallied 10 points in the first half. Carson-Newman travels to Mars Hill for a 6 p.m. game on Feb. 22, while PC hosts Tusculum at 6 p.m. |
