Sunday, November 27, 2005 LADY BLUE HOSE ROLL PAST DAVIS & ELKINS 77-55 ELKINS, WV — Presbyterian College sophomore guard Amy Jones (Warthen, Ga.) led four players in double figures with a game-high 16 points while adding six boards and four assists en route to a 77-55 victory over Davis & Elkins College Sunday afternoon at the Memorial Gymnasium. Jones hit seven-of-12 field goal attempts on the day including a pair of three-point field goals. Senior forward Wesley Campbell (Greenville, S.C.) added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while freshman center Sharie Hopkins (Chesapeake, Va.) also tallied a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Senior forward Rebecca Wessinger (Laurens, S.C.) rounded out the double figure scorers for the Lady Blue Hose with 14 points and five boards. The victory improves PC’s overall record to 5-1 on the season while Davis & Elkins drops to 1-4 on the season. PC is off to their best start since the 2001-02 season and are three wins away from reaching last year’s win total for the season. D&E were led by Cara Waybright who tallied 13 points and four assists while Daya Perkins chipped in 11 points, three boards, and three assists before fouling out. The Lady Blue Hose shot a blistering 58.6% from the field in the first half as they took at 40-30 lead entering halftime. Wessinger and Waybright tied for scoring honors in the first half with 10 points apiece. PC’s lead increased to as many as 22 points on two occasions in the second half, the last coming at 77-55 on a layup by Jones as time expired. The Lady Blue Hose continued to shoot the ball well after halftime, hitting 14-of-28 field goal attempts, good for a 50.0% while holding D&E to 35.3% shooting for the game. The Lady Blue Hose dominated the backboards to a 44-23 advantage and forced 18 turnovers. |
