PRESBYTERIAN’S HOPKINS NAMED

SAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Presbyterian College’s Sharie Hopkins has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 29, announced today by the league office.  Hopkins, a 6-0 product of Indian River High School, helped the Lady Blue Hose to a pair league wins during the week as the Lady Blue Hose (17-3) remained in a tie for first place with a 6-1 mark.

Hopkins, a freshman forward/center from Chesapeake, Va., had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in a 69-65 win at Tusculum on Wednesday night and followed with a 15-point, eight-rebound effort in an 80-60 win over Catawba on Saturday. Hopkins made 16-of-20 (80%) field goal attempts for the week, including a 7-of-8 performance against Catawba.

For the week, Hopkins averaged 16.5 points, nine rebounds, and one block.  The freshman added two blocks against Tusculum and a steal vs. Catawba. On the season, Hopkins is averaging 11.5 points and seven rebounds a game and is shooting 63.6% from the field.

The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is voted on by the Sports Information Directors of the eight member schools.
