LADY BLUE HOSE USE 2ND HALF SURGE TO DEFEAT
 LADY TROJANS 71-59

PETERSBURG, VA --- Presbyterian College’s freshman center Sharie Hopkins (Chesapeake, Va.) led five Lady Blue Hose in double figures with 14 points, nine rebounds, and three steals en route to a 71-59 victory over Virginia State University in women’s college basketball action Saturday afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium.

The Lady Blue Hose found themselves down 28-24 at intermission despite shooting 50.0% from the floor. The Lady Trojans forced 15 first half PC turnovers to offset a 35.5% field goal percentage and take a four-point lead at the completion of the first half.

Freshman guard Katania Walker (Virginia Beach, Va.) paced VSU with eight first half points to go along with three steals, while PC was led by senior forward Rebecca Wessinger’s (Laurens, S.C.) seven points on three-of-four shooting from the charity stripe.

The Lady Blue Hose took control in the second half, outscoring the Lady Trojans 47-31. Hopkins led the way with 10 points, six boards, and three steals after intermission. VSU made a late run to cut the lead to single digits when senior guard Erica Glasper (Richmond, Va.) hit a jumper to make the score 59-53 with 1:35 remaining. PC responded with a pair of field goals from Hopkins and by going six-for-six at the charity stripe in the final 30 seconds to seal the victory. Sophomore guard Amy Jones (Warthen, Ga.) went four-for-four and senior forward Wesley Campbell (Greenville, S.C.) connected on two more free throws as the Lady Blue Hose went on to win 71-59.

Hopkins went five-of-eight from the field for PC to go along with a team-best nine boards and added three steals, while Wessinger scored a team-best 15 points to go along with five assists and four steals. Jones chipped in 12 points while Campbell and sophomore guard Bridget Takach (Chapin, S.C.) added 11 points apiece.

Walker led VSU with a game-high 22 points and five steals, while Glasper chipped in 14 points and three assists.

PC improves to 7-1 on the season and equal their win total for the entire 2004-05 season. Virginia State (0-6) drops their sixth straight game to open the season.
