PRICE & SMITH
SIGN WITH PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
CLINTON, S.C. —
Taylor Price
and Lea Smith have
signed national letters of intent to play women’s basketball
at Presbyterian College announced today by second-year head
coach Jessica Vanco.
Price, a 6-2 center from Ft. Bragg, N.C., currently
attends for E.E. Smith High School where she plays for head
coach Dee Hardy. This
past season she helped lead her team to a 21-8 overall record
and a trip to the second round of the state playoffs.
She is also a member of the school’s volleyball
team and has been selected to numerous academic awards including
the Math & Science Academy, National Honor Society, and
president of the Student-Athlete Organization at her school.
“Taylor is very aggressive around the basket,”
said Vanco. “She is a banger who uses her body well to post up
in the paint. We look forward to her contributions with the Lady
Blue Hose basketball program for years to come.”
Smith, a 5-11 forward/center from Marion, N.C., currently
attends McDowell High School where she plays for head coach Mike
Silver, a former Presbyterian College graduate. This past
season she averaged 11.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg, and 1.4 spg, while
shooting 52.8% from the field en route to earning honorable
mention All-State honors.
She is a member of her school’s Fellowship of
Christian Athletes (FCA), 4-H Club, and has been selected to the
National Honor Society and Who’s Who Among High School
Students. Smith is captain of her basketball and volleyball
teams and is her high school’s Wendy’s High School Heisman
Nominee this season.
“Lea is a quick post who gets most of her points
running the floor and outworking her opponents,” said Vanco.
“Her skills will fit nicely in our up-tempo offense.”
“Both of these young ladies will fill major roles
in the paint after our 2006 senior post players graduate.
They come from strong high school programs with winning
attitudes. We are very excited to have these two young ladies
join our family.”
Price and Smith become the first two players to sign
with the Lady Blue Hose during the 2005-06 academic year.
