Johnson Acquires Career-Best 19
Boards In Loss To C-N
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.
– Presbyterian’s
Morgan Johnson tallied a career-high 19 rebounds and 17 points
in PC’s upset bid over No. 21 Carson-Newman, but it was not
enough as the Lady Eagles pulled away in the final minutes in
their 70-57 victory over the Lady Blue Hose in SAC basketball
action at the Holt Fieldhouse.
The double-double recorded by
Johnson (Marietta, Ga.) was her eighth of the 2006-07 campaign.
Tishe Sanders (Clinton, S.C.)
was the only other Lady Blue Hose in double figures, scoring a
career-best 13 points.
Sanders scored the majority
of her points from beyond the arc, nailing three of her five
three-point attempts.
Ashley Tipton scored 21
points to pace the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles in their win.
Tipton had five three-pointers.
The Lady Eagles (15-2, 5-1
SAC) claimed victory despite shooting just 38% from the field.
C-N held a 29-24 advantage at
halftime, but Tipton hit consecutive treys to bolster C-N's lead
to eight points at 35-27 early in the second half.
Tykira McDaniel and Tipton
made consecutive shots midway through the second half to give
the Lady Eagles their largest lead of the game at 47-31.
PC would cut the lead to five
points late in the game, but C-N went on an 8-3 run to increase
their lead to 10 en route to the 13-point victory.
Presbyterian has a week off
before welcoming Newberry to the Templeton Center at 2 p.m. on
Saturday, Jan. 27.
