PC’s Parris Scores Career
High 20 Points In Overtime Loss To C-N
CLINTON, S.C. – Jessica Parris scored a career high 20
points in Presbyterian’s 73-71 overtime loss to Carson-Newman on
Wednesday evening at the Templeton Center.
The Inman, S.C. native scored 15 of her 20 points from beyond
the arc where she was 5-for-10 on the evening. The 20 points
picked up by Parris bested her previous high of 19 set in PC’s
game with Newberry in late January.
Parris was not the only Lady Blue Hose to net a career-best
showing in the game as teammate Sharie Hopkins (Chesapeake, Va.)
finished her night with a career-high 15 rebounds.
Hopkins recorded a double-double in the game after finishing the
game with 14 points, going 5-for-9 from the field. She also tied
her career high with five assists and set a season high with two
blocks.
In total, four PC women’s basketball players finished in double
digits. Kerianne Blease (Saluda, S.C.) had 10 points, while
Bridget Takach (Chapin, S.C.) chipped in with 15 points.
Presbyterian led for the majority of the second half, but with
the game tied 62-62 with 1:37 left in the game clock
Carson-Newman went ahead 64-62 after Ashley Tipton hit two free
throws.
Presbyterian would square the game at 64-64 shortly thereafter
when Hopkins was able to hit a layup with 18 seconds left in the
contest.
The Lady Blue Hose actually had a chance to take the victory in
regulation, but Takach’s shot fell just short to send the game
to overtime.
The Lady Eagles needed just two more points than PC in the
overtime period to earn the 73-71 victory.
Carson-Newman had two players score over 20 points in the game.
Tipton led all scorers in the game with 26 points, while Shari
Buford achieved one of the better games of her career, ending
the day with a double-double showing of 23 points and 15
rebounds.
Presbyterian (5-19, 0-13 SAC) returns to action at 2 p.m. on
Saturday, Feb. 17 for its final home contest of the 2007
campaign against the Tusculum Pioneers.
