Catawba Picks Up SAC Win
Over PC
CLINTON, S.C. – Catawba outscored the Lady
Blue Hose by nine points in the second half to win 61-53 and pick up their third league victory
of the 2006-07 season in South Atlantic Conference action on
Saturday afternoon at the Templeton Center.
Presbyterian falls for the sixth
consecutive time, ending the afternoon at 5-11 overall and 0-5
in SAC play. The Lady Indians improve to 3-1 in SAC games and
13-3 with the victory over PC.
Catawba’s Brittany Higgins led all scorers
in the contest with 13 points. The sophomore from Takoma Park,
Md. was 5-for-9 from the field.
Higgins was one of just two Lady Indians in
double figures. Ingrid Easter (Cana, Va.) concluded the game
with 12 points and three assists.
Presbyterian was led in the scoring column
in the loss by Kerianne Blease (Saluda, S.C.), who finished the
game with a team-high 11 points after going 4-for-6 from the
field, including a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
Bridget Takach (Chapin, S.C.) chipped in
with 10 points, while Sharie Hopkins, who was making her first
start of the season, scored 10 points to acquire double-digits
for the second consecutive game.
Presbyterian led the contest 34-33 at
halftime. The Lady Blue Hose looked to extend their lead from
the outset of the second stanza, going on a 5-2 run in the first
seven-plus minutes of the second half to take a six-point lead.
Catawba fought back, eventually scoring 28
points in the second half compared to PC’s 19 to pick up the
eight-point victory.
The Lady Blue Hose travel to Wingate on
Wednesday, Jan. 17 looking for their first win in seven tries.
