Nets Career-Best Six Boards In Loss To GCSU
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
Elicia Lynch notched a personal-best 19 points to help give the
Georgia College & State University women’s basketball team a
73-53 win over Presbyterian College Monday night in the
Centennial Center.
The Lady Bobcats improved their
record to 5-0, while the Lady Blue Hose fell to 2-3.
Amy Jones
scored 13 points to lead the Lady Blue Hose in the loss. Morgan
Johnson added 12 of her own and acquired five boards.
The tandem of Jones and Johnson
would lead PC defensively as well, with Jones swiping four
steals and Johnson notching a steal and a block.
Kerianne
Blease concluded the game against the Lady Bobcats with six
boards to set a new career-high by two caroms.
The Lady Bobcats opened the game
with a steady drive and then took off on a 14 point run that
began with a pair of Marquita Driskell free-throws at the 7:18
mark that would be capped by a Lindsey Smith free throw with
3:59 left to play in the half.
GCSU would eventually extend that
lead to 40-20 by intermission.
In the second
half, the Lady Blue Hose came out firing, pulling to within 14
at the 9:53 mark with a Jessica Parris three-pointer.
GCSU would answer back, pulling
ahead to a 72-49 lead on a three-pointer by Savanna Chapman with
2:32 left in the half.
Presbyterian would gain a little
ground with a pair of free throws each from Jones and Taylor
Price, cutting the Lady Bobcat lead to 19, but Savanna Chapman
would sink a free throw with 38 seconds on the clock to secure
the final score of 73-53.
Georgia College & State’s Driskell
tallied her fourth double-double on the year with 12 points, a
game-high 11 boards, and a career-high four assists.
For the game, GCSU shot just 38.5%
(25-65) from the floor, 29.2% (7-24) from behind the arc and a
solid 84.2% (16-19) from the stripe. Presbyterian outshot GCSU
at 41.9% (18-43) from the floor, but fell slightly behind in
three-point percentage with 28.6% (6-21).
Presbyterian
finished at 78.6% (11-14) from the free throw line.
The Lady Blue
Hose return home at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29 to square off
against Converse in their first home game of the season.
