Basketball Succumbs to North Greenville, 77-65
NGU Coach Arledge Notches 300th Career Victory
TIGERVILLE,
S.C. –
North
Greenville University held off a late run by Presbyterian
College to down the Blue Hose 77-65 Friday night in Hayes
Gymnasium in NCAA Division II women's basketball action. The
win marked the 300th career victory for NGU head coach Jayne
Arledge.
The
Crusaders improve to 5-7 on the season, while Presbyterian falls
to 4-5.
North
Greenville built a 17-point lead with 3:53 remaining in the
game, but PC went on an 11-0 run over the next two minutes and
Kerianne Blease (Saluda, S.C.) nailed a three-pointer with 2:01
left in the game to cut the Crusader lead to six points. NGU
responded on their next possession with a layup by Amanda
Milner. The Crusaders made six free throws down the stretch to
hold on for the 77-65 victory.
North
Greenville had five players score in double figures. Audrey
Toscano led the Crusaders with 18 points and six rebounds.
Debbie Wyatt and Milner each scored 12 points, while Eboni Davis
and Samantha Frost added 11 points each.
Amy Jones
(Warthen, Ga.) scored 21 points for the Blue Hose to lead all
scorers as tonight marked the third time this season that Jones
has scored 20 or more points. Morgan Johnson (Marietta, Ga.)
recorded her fifth double-double of the season on 15 points and
11 rebounds, including eight defensive boards.
Wyatt scored
a layup at the 18:15 mark in the first half to give NGU the lead
and the Crusaders never trailed again in the game. NGU held a
30-23 advantage with 5:28 left in the first half before a Taylor
Price (Fort Bragg, N.C.) layup and free throws by Tishe Sanders
(Laurens, S.C.) and Lea Smith (Marion, S.C.) pulled the Blue
Hose within three at the 2:08 mark. The Crusaders used a 6-2
run to lead 36-29 at halftime.
North
Greenville will break for Christmas and return to action January
4, 2007 at Queens University of Charlotte. Tip-off is slated
for 5:30 p.m.
Presbyterian
will travel to USC Upstate Sunday for a 2 p.m. tip-off in
non-conference action.
