PC's Takach Scores 16 In Loss To Newberry
NEWBERRY, S.C. – Newberry’s Tonique Frasier recorded a
double-double and the Lady Indians pulled away from
Presbyterian in a 71-44 victory in South Atlantic
Conference women’s basketball action at Elezear Arena
on Wednesday evening.
Frasier scored a game-high 17 points in the victory
and acquired 12 rebounds.
Presbyterian was led in the game by Bridget Takach,
who ended the evening with a team-high 16 points. She
was one of two Lady Blue Hose in double figures as
Jessica Parris netted 12 points in the loss.
Newberry began the contest by jumping out to an early
9-1 lead, forcing PC head coach Jessica Vanco to call
a 30 second timeout with 16:04 left in the first half.
Newberry continued to pad its lead in the contest as
the Lady Blue Hose went the first five and half
minutes of the game without a field goal. PC did hit
two free throws in that time period, but it was not
until Lea Smith hit a jumper in the lane with just
under 14:30 left in the first half that PC was able to
tally its inaugural field goal.
Down by as many as 15 in the opening minutes of the
game, PC began to climb back into the contest after
the first half media timeout. Parris hit a
three-pointer at the 7:47 mark of the first half to
cut the lead to eight points at 22-14 and force Lady
Indians head coach Jason Brink to call a 30 second
timeout of his own.
Shortly thereafter after another Parris trey and a
Takach free throw Presbyterian pulled to within four
at 22-18.
The Lady Blue Hose cut the lead to two at 32-30 with a
Takach layup, but Newberry scored the final three
points of the half to enter halftime with a 35-30
advantage.
Takach had 11 points in the first half to lead the
Lady Blue Hose, while Newberry’s Frasier scored 11 in
the first stanza to lead the Lady Indians.
The Lady Indians started the second half much in the
same way that they began the game, jumping out to a
13-point lead to start the second half before Vanco
called a timeout with 13:24 left in the contest.
Newberry would eventually take control of the contest
and take the 27-point victory.
Presbyterian (5-21, 0-15 SAC) will conclude its
regular season at 2 p.m. on Saturday with a road
contest against Catawba.
