Parris Scores Career High 19 Points In Loss To Newberry

CLINTON, S.C. – Jessica Parris scored a career-high 19 points, but it was not enough as Presbyterian College fell 76-64 to Newberry in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Templeton Center.

Parris (Inman, S.C.) was 8-for-12 from the field, nailing two three-pointers to give the Lady Blue Hose an opportunity to get close to the Lady Indians in the second half.

Parris’ previous high prior to her performance in the Newberry game was 10. Parris had hit the mark twice before with the last time being in a contest with Lenoir-Rhyne earlier this month.

In the end though, PC could not get any closer due to in large part to Newberry scoring 27 points off 23 Presbyterian turnovers. In contrast, Newberry only turned the basketball over seven times with the Lady Blue Hose only garnering three points off of them.

Monica Alexander paced the Lady Indians in the victory, scoring a game-high 22 points. She was one of three Newberry women in double figures.

Tonique Frasier finished her afternoon with 15 points and four rebounds, while Ashley Marine netted 14 points in 28 minutes on the floor for the Lady Indians.

Presbyterian’s Morgan Johnson continued to pad to her South Atlantic-leading rebound mark by ending the game with 12 rebounds. Johnson (Marietta, Ga.) also added 12 points to tally her ninth double-double of the 2006-07 campaign.

Sharie Hopkins (Chesapeake, Va.) acquired 17 points for the Lady Blue Hose giving PC 48 of their 64 points from the threesome.

Presbyterian (5-14, 0-8) ends the contest still searching for its first win of January and in SAC play, while the Lady Indians end the day 17-2 overall and 6-2 in SAC action.

The Lady Blue Hose next travel to Mars Hill for a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
