LMU Ends PC’s Season

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Eighth-seeded Lincoln Memorial’s women’s basketball team held on for a 53-52 victory over ninth-seeded Presbyterian College in the first round of the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Basketball Tournament on Monday evening at Tex Turner Arena.

The Lady Blue Hose had the lead in the contest at 47-45 with just under four minutes to go, but Lincoln Memorial held PC scoreless for almost the entire four minutes to pick up the win.

Down 53-47 with 24 seconds left on the game clock, Presbyterian was finally able to get on the scoreboard on a lay-up from Sharie Hopkins (Chesapeake, Va.).

LMU’s Kate Fane then missed two free throws with seven seconds left on the clock to give the Lady Blue Hose hope. Bridget Takach (Chapin, S.C) set the final score at 53-52 point on a last second three-pointer.

Takach led Presbyterian in the contest by tallying her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The 11 rebounds were a career-high for the junior guard.

Hopkins just missed out on her second consecutive double-double for the Lady Blue Hose as she ended the night with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Madeline Richards of Lincoln Memorial led all scorers in the contest with 20 points. She was one of two Lady Railsplitters in double figures as Heather Benton acquired 11 points.

LMU’s Andi Winney barely missed out on a double in the game, scoring nine and corralling nine rebounds.

The loss concludes Presbyterian’s 2006-07 season. The Lady Blue Hose finish the year at 6-22 overall.

Lincoln Memorial advances on in the Food Lion SAC Basketball Tournament to face off against top-seeded Wingate on Wednesday, Feb. 28 in Wingate, N.C. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
