Former PC Standout Tabbed As Assistant Coach At Butler
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Presbyterian College women’s
basketball standout Rachel (Sloan) Bullard has been named an
assistant basketball coach on former PC women’s basketball coach
Beth Couture’s staff at Butler University.
A
three-time All-American and two-time South Atlantic Conference
Player-of-the-Year while at Presbyterian, Bullard played under
Couture during her four years with the Blue Hose. Presbyterian
was 97-24 during those years on the hardwood, commandeering
three straight SAC regular season and tournament crowns en route
to three NCAA Division II tournament appearances.
The only women’s basketball player in institutional history to
have their jersey retired, the Greenville, S.C. native still
owns the school records for points (1,889) and rebounds (1,034).
A
four-year starter at PC, Bullard commences her time on the
Bulldog staff after serving one season as head coach at Lawrence
Central High School. She was an assistant varsity coach at
George Washington Community School in Indianapolis from 2004-05
and was the varsity head coach at local Laurens High School from
2002-04.
Bullard began her coaching career as a volunteer assistant under
Coach Couture in the 2001-02 PC women’s basketball campaign.
“We are delighted to have Rachel join our staff," Couture said.
"Her experience as both a player and coach will help us as we
continue to renew the winning tradition in Butler women's
basketball."
Bullard, who with her husband Roland are expecting their first
child this month, graduated from Presbyterian in 2002 with a
degree in math education.
