PC's Smith Scores Career High 18
Points In Loss To Tusculum
CLINTON, S.C. – Lea Smith had a career day for the
Lady Blue Hose in Presbyterian’s 62-61 loss to Tusculum in South
Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action at the Templeton
Center on Saturday afternoon. The freshman from Marion, N.C. led
all scorers in the contest with 18 points.
Smith also corralled 10 rebounds to secure the first
double-double of her career.
The game was tied 60-60 with 2:16 left on the game clock in the
second half, but Chassity Martin’s lay-up with 1:05 left gave
the Pioneers the victory.
Kerianne Blease (Saluda, S.C.) had a chance to win the game for
PC, but her jumper fell just off the mark to give Tusculum the
win.
Sharie Hopkins hit one out of two free throws with 22 seconds
left in the contest to net the final score of 62-61.
Tusculum only had two players in double figures in the victory,
but the two players combined for 32 points. Martin had 16 points
and two rebounds, while Ashli Oliver had 16 points, three
rebounds and two steals.
Presbyterian concluded the narrow loss with four players in
double figures including Smith.
Sharie Hopkins (Chesapeake, Va.) barely missed out on her second
consecutive double-double with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Blease finished with 11 points and a career-high six assists,
while Jessica Parris (Inman, S.C.) ended her afternoon with 11
points and four boards.
Tusculum moved two games over .500 with the victory at 14-12
(6-9 SAC), while PC ended the game with a record of 5-20 (0-14
SAC).
The Lady Blue Hose next travel to rival Newberry for a 6 p.m.
contest on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
