Johnson Acquires 11th Double-Double In Loss To Wingate

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian scored 43 second half points, but it was not enough as they fell 74-63 to nationally-ranked and league first place Wingate on Monday night at the Templeton Center.

The 43 point outpouring in the second half was not enough to debunk a 37-20 halftime deficit to the Bulldogs. Still, the Lady Blue Hose after going on a 9-0 spurt got as close as four at 59-55 at the 4:49 mark of the second half.

PC would not get any closer as the Bulldogs outscored Presbyterian 15-8 in the closing minutes of the game.

Morgan Johnson led the Lady Blue Hose cause in the loss, recording her 11th double-double of the 2006-07 campaign with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Marietta, Ga. native scored all of her points in the second half.

She was one of four Lady Blue Hose in double digits. Sharie Hopkins (Chesapeake, Va.) had 13 points in the game, while Kerianne Blease (Saluda, S.C.) finished the evening with 12 points and six rebounds.

Jessica Parris (Inman, S.C.) was 3-for-7 from the field for the Lady Blue Hose on the night to finish with 10 points.

Wingate’s Tanetra Barrett led all scorers in the contest with 21 points. The All-SAC standout was 9-for-10 from the charity stripe in the game and 6-for-12 from the field.

She was one of only two Bulldogs in double figures as teammate Emily Paffrath added 18 points.

In first place in the SAC, Wingate improved to 10-2 in league action and 18-5 overall with the win, while PC fell to 5-18 overall and 0-12 in league play with the loss.

Presbyterian has one day off before returning to the hardwood once again at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14 for a men’s and women’s Valentine’s Day doubleheader at the Templeton Center.
