ERSKINE COLLEGE AND USC SPARTANBURG WIN 2ND ANNUAL
PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL

CLINTON, SC — Erskine College women’s team and USC Spartanburg men’s team won their respective races at the second annual Presbyterian College Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning.

The Erskine College women’s team outpointed second place Lander University 76 to 84. The Flying Fleet placed four runners in the top 20 led by Perri Hiott who finished 7th and Jessica Martin finished 10th.

Lander University’s Emily Keith was the individual medalist winning the 5K race with a 21:37 time. Georgia  College & State University’s Bethany Loushine finished second (21:50) and Catawba College’s Rebecca Defoe placed third with a time of 22:02.

Presbyterian College, the host school, finished sixth as sophomore Tanith Forrester (Lexington, SC) finished ninth with a 22:59 time while freshman Katie Whipple (Lexington, SC) was 22nd with a time of 23:48.

The men’s race was dominated by the Rifles of USC Spartanburg who placed six runners in the top seven and outpointed second place Newberry College 20 to 76. The Rifles Travis Smith led the way finishing second with a 28:04 time on the 8K course. Finishing right behind Smith was teammates Travis Vaughn (28:12), Clark Davis (28:18), and Tim Gibbons (28:25).

Individually, Newberry College’s Brandon Downey won the race with a time of 28:03.

Presbyterian College, who finished in fifth place, was led by junior Jack Carmody (Atlanta, GA) and junior Drew Brannon (Knoxville, TN) who finished 20th and 21st respectively. Carmody finished with a time of 31:10 and Brannon right behind at 31:17.
