BLUE HOSE MEN’S & WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS RETURN TO CAMPUS OVER THE WEEKEND TO BEGIN PRESEASON PRACTICE

CLINTON, S.C. — The Presbyterian College men’s and women’s cross country teams returned to campus on Friday to begin preseason camp under the direction of second-year head coach Michelle Karlon.

Both teams reported Friday afternoon and conducted team meetings and room check-in. Saturday morning the teams continued with team meetings followed by physicals and their first preseason practice.

On Sunday, the teams continued work with a late afternoon practice session. Next week the teams will practice twice on Monday with an 8:00 am session and a 4:00 pm session. The rest of the week the teams will practice early in the morning through Friday before taking Saturday and Sunday off.

The men’s team returns five letterwinners led by a pair of seniors in Ryan Nobles (Laurens, S.C.) and Ben Rosebrock (Columbia, S.C.). On the women’s side, five letterwinners also return led by seniors Tanith Forrester (Lexington, S.C.) and Essie Buxton (Johnson, City, Tenn.) and junior Kate Whipple (Columbia, S.C.).

“I am really looking forward to this season,” said Karlon. “Everyone came back to campus looking good and I cannot wait to see how much they have improved. I feel we laid the groundwork last year and I am hoping this year we can start moving forward to making this program a stronger contender in the SAC (South Atlantic Conference).”

“We have eight freshmen (4-men, 4-women) coming this year,” said Karlon. “They all come from very successful high school cross country careers. I am anxious to see how quickly the newcomers adjust and start making their impact on the program.”

Both teams will continue training for their opening meet of the season on Saturday, September 6, the 2003 Eye Opener Cross Country Meet in Spartanburg, S.C. The first race will begin at 8:00 am that morning.
