TEMPEL SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT TO RUN
FOR PRESBYTERIAN IN 2006

CLINTON, S.C. – Kristi Tempel (Aiken, S.C.) has signed a national letter of intent to run for Presbyterian College’s women’s cross country team in 2006 as announced by second-year head coach Stephanie Allen.

“Kristi is a natural and has the combination of both physical talent and mental toughness,” expressed Coach Allen.  “In her short time running cross country, she has already proven herself to be a competitor.  We look forward to her making considerable contributions towards the success of this program.”

Tempel made an immediate impact for the South Aiken High School cross country team in her first year of ever running cross country.  She had played soccer since she was eight years old until making the transition to cross country for her senior year at South Aiken.  Tempel helped lead the squad to the Region 4-AAAA Championship title as well as a second-place finish in the state in cross country in Class AAAA.  She was Coach Russ Busbee’s No. 3 runner this season.

In her first year, Tempel ran a personal best 20:30 at the Region 4-AAAA Championship meet as she placed seventh individually.  She posted a time of 20:55 at the 5K Coaches Classic, while South Aiken came in fifth.  At the Sandhills Invitational, Tempel ran the 5K course in 21:00.  She boasted a time of 21:04 at the state meet, finishing 43rd.   South Aiken captured the Pee Dee Classic (5K), while she finished seventh in 21:08.

Tempel will join her sister, Missy, at Presbyterian.  Missy was a freshman on the Lady Blue Hose’s women’s soccer team this past fall.
