Lander Bearcats Claim 2006 Lady Blue
Hose Invitational CLINTON, S.C. – The Lander University women’s cross country squad claimed the Sixth Annual Lady Blue Hose Invitational with 77 points on Friday afternoon as the Bearcats had three runners finished in the Top 10. Taylor Hansen of Newberry College took individual honors as she finished the 5K course in 19:31.21. This is the second consecutive year that Lander has won the Lady Blue Hose Invitational. Lander and Presbyterian have each won the invitational twice since the first one in 2000. Anna Lohmann paced the Bearcats with her sixth-place finish, completing the race in 20:19.82. Margaret Mobley and Olga Nunez-Lopez were separated by three seconds as Mobley finished eighth in 20:25.53 and Nunez-Lopez ninth in 20:28.74. Francis Marion’s Kelly May led the Patriots to a second-place finish and 83 points as May finished second with a time of 19:42.40. Jocelyn Veit of Spartanburg Methodist took third, running the course in 19:46.17. May and Veit swapped spots from last year as Veit was the runner-up and May placed third a year ago.
The host Blue Hose improved on last year’s fourth place finish, taking third this year with 92 points. Sophomore Lauren Bowers (Rock Hill, S.C.) placed seventh with her time of 20:22.28, a personal best time for Bowers. Freshman Kristi Tempel (Aiken, S.C.) was next as Tempel claimed the 15th spot in 20:56.10, while senior Kathryn Gregory (Buffalo, S.C.) was 20th in 21:16.65. Presbyterian returns to action Thursday, Oct. 12 at the Erskine College Invitational in Due West, S.C. The women’s race will begin at 4 p.m. followed by the men at 4:45 p.m.
