Cometto Leads Blue Hose to Fourth at Mid-Carolina Invite

PROSPERITY, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women’s golf team carded a 393 in the first round of Mid-Carolina Invitational at the par-72, 5,997-yard Mid-Carolina Country Club course to finish in fourth place with a two-round total of 801 on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Hose were led at the event by Kristin Cometto, who finished the event in 10th place with a score of 171 after firing an 81 and a 90.  Anna Lee Abernathy had a Top 20 finish, coming in 19th with her score of 193.

Newberry College held off Pfeiffer University by one shot to claim the Mid-Carolina Invitational.  The Indians finished the 36-hole event with a score of 632, holding off the Falcons who finished with a combined score of 633.

The Indians shot 316 in both rounds with four Newberry golfers finishing in the Top 10.  Armstrong Atlantic State University (704) finished third and UNC Pembroke (847) rounded out the field of five.

Brittany Beltran of Pfeiffer won the individual title, shooting a 74 in the first round for a 36-hole total of 152.  Joining Beltran on the all-tournament team were Danielle Davis (75-79) of Armstrong Atlantic State, Franziska Blum (76-78) of Newberry, Charlene Reid (75-80) of Pfeiffer, and Eva Cormann (78-77) of Newberry.
