BLUE HOSE
WOMENS SOCCER WIN BIG ON SENIOR NIGHT 5-1 OVER QUEENS
PCs Delisa Smith
scores a pair of goals
CLINTON,
SC The Presbyterian College womens soccer team
defeated Queens College tonight at Martin Stadium at Edens Field
5-1. Sophomore
forward Delisa Smith (Anderson,
SC) scored a goal in each half, including the game winner, to
help the Blue Hose improve to 8-5-1 overall.
With the loss, the Royals fall to 7-8 overall.
Presbyterian
started the scoring at the 1:51 mark when junior forward Jessi
Adair (Decatur, GA) found the back of the net that was
assisted by a pair of senior midfielders in Robyn
Frederick (Lexington, SC) and Meredith
Schmidt (Decatur, GA).
Smith followed up with her first goal of the match at the
35:25 mark after Royals goalkeeper Sara Frye (Jacksonville,
FL) could not hold on to the ball when the Blue Hose crossed the
ball into the box. Queens
would get a goal at the end of the first half at the 43:30 mark
when Monique Pittman played a ball to freshman forward Brittney
Eakins (Lexington, KY) who beat Blue Hose senior goalkeeper Laura
Johnson (Hilliard, OH) and make the score 2-1 PC.
The first half ended with the Blue Hose out shooting the
Royals 11 to 3.
Presbyterian
came out of halftime like a rocket scoring two goals in the
first 4:42 of the second half.
Freshman defender Caroline
Edwards (Anderson, SC) headed in a corner kick served up
by Adair at the 48:28 mark. Freshman defender Robin
Phillips (Columbia, SC) scored on a penalty kick just
1:14 later to give the Blue Hose a 4-1 advantage.
Smith would add her second goal of the match assisted by
a pair of sophomores in Anne
Gilmore (Athens, GA) and Ashley
Cooke (Roswell, GA) at the 56:23 mark to cap off the
scoring The PC defense held Queens offense to zero shots in
the second half.
Freshman
goalkeeper Aimee Tatom (Irving,
TX) played the second half and recorded one save and did not
allow a goal while Johnson played the first half recording one
save and allowing one goal.
Frye, Queens goalkeeper, recorded three saves and
allowed all five Blue Hose goals.
