September 10, 2002 BLUE HOSE SHOOT PAST LADY INDIANS 7-1 CLINTON,
S.C. — Presbyterian College senior forward Jessi Adair (Decatur, Ga.) scored five
total points on the night to lead the #21st ranked Blue Hose to
a 7-1 win over the Lady Indians of Newberry College Tuesday
night. The match was the South
Atlantic Conference opener for both teams with the Blue Hose
dominating the shots 34-1 including 14 shots on goal compared to
one by the Lady Indians. The first half saw PC take
14 shots, but tallied one goal by Adair at the 7:05 mark off an
assist from sophomore defender Caroline
Edwards (Anderson, S.C.). The Blue Hose led 1-0 at
intermission, but the Lady Indians knotted the score at 1-1 at
the 47:43 mark when freshman forward Stefanie MacDonald (Simpsonville, S.C.) found the back of the net. PC rebounded only :17
seconds later as freshman forward Elizabeth
Orstadt (Marietta, Ga.) beat a pair of Newberry
defenders to score and give the Blue Hose the lead for good at
2-1. Adair scored her second goal of the night, unassisted, at
the 51:47 followed by junior forward Delisa
Smith’s (Anderson, S.C.) goal at the 67:26 mark that
Adair assisted. Sophomore Noel Livernois (Greenwood, S.C.) picked
up her first career goal on a penalty kick at the 69:43 mark to
give the Blue Hose a 5-1 lead. Senior defender Jocelyn
Darrow (Savannah, Ga.) found the back of the net for the
Blue Hose at the 75:24 mark off an assist from freshman defender
Jennifer
Merritt (Easley, S.C.). Merritt then scored herself at
the 86:17 mark, unassisted, to put the final touches on the 7-1
win. In goal, PC’s junior
keeper Aimee
Tatom (Irving, Tex.) and freshman Megan
Mueller (Kingsport, Tenn.) each played a half with
Mueller allowing one goal. Newberry’s starting
keeper sophomore Annemarie
Peterson (Lake Grove, N.Y.) played two-thirds of the match
allowing four goals and picking up six saves. Peterson was
injured in the second period and freshman Rachel
Ellison (Simpsonville, S.C.) played 20 minutes in goal
allowing three goals and picking up one save. The #21st ranked Blue Hose improve to 4-0-0, 1-0 in the SAC while the Indians fall to 1-3-0, 0-1 in the SAC. |
